Raia Maria-Laura

Who am I?

My name is Raia Maria-laura. Born in 1996. Now you’re probably thinking what my first name and last name is. Just a second! My name is Maria Laura and my last name is Raia. I’m an italian. I love photography. A girl full of dreams and fantasy. sometimes I dream too much and then I start to imagine me everything. Pretty funny!

How it all began?

I got my first camera as a Christmas gift when I was 12 years old. From the moment I held it in my hands I knew I fell in love. I haven’t been able to live without it ever since. I took pictures of everything, but it seemed like there was not really a genre that captivated me. As more time passed I started making more pictures and realized I wanted a bigger camera. For more than a year I saved up money to buy my first ‘big’ camera. It’s a given that I still have my first camera at home as it has a special place in my heart. It is something incredibly precious that reminds me of the day where it all began.

What I like to do?

I’m in love with making portraits, capturing personality. In my line of work I believe it’s crucial to talk a lot with my models because it’s so important that they’re comfortable. I hate standing in front of the camera, so I do understand how they must feel. I also love making documentary pictures where you can really feel the moment. Moments that cannot be captured again. It’s an essential thing for me that a picture “speaks” because if it doesn’t, ‘I failed’. That’s my vision on my art. I just don’t talk, I capture.

I’ve worked with a lot of people such as models, actors, artists and many more. I’ve also been working for several agencies, not only in Europe but also in the United States. I’m also specialized in backstage and streetstyle photography during the fashion weeks. Whether it's making portraits or documenting events, my style is very prominent in my work. My pictures also have been reposted by artists such like Big Sean, brands and agencies. I just love to work with ambitious people and being surrounded by them cause it gives you motivation to continue. I quickly realized that I really wanted to do this, that this was the world where I wanted to be, the world where I was at ease.
